He would slit their throats, then rob them and dump their bodies into the river...
Steven and Roy return as the haunted mysteries of Eximere deepen!
When the ghosts of grotesque, bloated bodies invade Eximere, Steven and Roy investigate only to find that other people are exploring the Unser Mansion above them, just like they did years ago. Somehow their arrival has released the spirits of dozens of drowning victims, who now wander the halls.
Secret rooms with no windows or doors hide new mysteries inside the mansion. It will take knowledge of the Dark River to figure things out. Although the Dark River is accessible from Eximere, Roy forbids it, and Steven has promised never to go there.
When Derick arrives to conduct his own investigation, it becomes clear that the Dark River is where the answers to James Unser’s mysteries lie. Will Steven travel there, breaking his promise to his father?
The Port of Missing Souls is Book 12 in The River series. In it, many of the River universe storylines come together to weave a complex tale of one man’s evil quest for power.
The Port of Missing Souls The River Book 12 eBook Michael Richan
I've read every book in all the series Richan writes. Honestly, the man can't write them fast enough for me, but he'd have to be a super human! I'm so invested in each and every character, I just can't get enough. I find myself thinking about them often, wondering what they'd be doing, wondering what's next. I know, I know. That's just how addictive Richan's writing is! I'm not sure if this book would be a stand alone. I'd have to say probably not. I think it'd be way too hard to understand all the nuances it entails. You REALLY need to start reading all the books in the series. You won't regret it, I swear. As for this particular book, I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was amazing to see the worlds all converge. Well, not really the worlds as much as characters from both the River and the Dark River. I can't give spoilers because I hate when people do that. I'll just say there is now an opening for loads of new perspectives into the Dark River. Which ones it will be, only Richan knows. The book is very coherent and flows. I couldn't stand when I had to put it down for, well, life. I'd get back as soon as possible.
I'm excited to see what's next in both series. What will be next in the Dark River? I can't wait! What will be next for Eximere? I'm both excited and reserved. Eximere is my favorite place on Earth that doesn't really exist. When life gets hectic, I find myself wishing for an Eximere of my own. I know it's required more upkeep as of late, but the peace would be well worth it. Sigh, if only.... Because of my revere for Eximere, I pray Richan handles it with kid gloves. I can't imagine he'd do anything less. He created it, after all.
You'd be crazy not to grab this book quickly and start reading immediately. Every River fan, and even just the Dark River fans, will be engrossed from beginning to end. I've already preordered the next book in the Downwinders series. Let's just put it this way: I put off reading my Stephen King book to get to this one. Yes, I put off my idol of 30 years for Richan. That should tell you all you need to know about his writing ability. Go, get on with the journey.... 5/5

The Port of Missing Souls The River Book 12 eBook Michael Richan Reviews
I have read all of the books in the River Series and have enjoyed them immensely. The books are nicely-paced page turners. The characters are well defined and interconnected with the other stories. Each book contributes to the rich, detailed world Michael Richan has created, with connections that link them all together in unique and interesting ways. This book can stand on its own but I recommend reading them in series order for the best experience and for maximum understanding. This book, The Port of Missing Souls, brings in elements and characters from the dangerous and strangely addictive, Dark River, something only alluded to in previous River books. At this point, Steven, Roy, and Eliza seem like old friends and I look forward to the next book in the series...until then, I will wait patiently on the porch at Eximere.
The River series is so unique. Michael Richan has created such a fantastic world within a world known as The River. The characters are so well written, they feel like old friends.
Another thing I appreciate about this series is the realistic dialogue. I won't give a synopsis or outline because I
hate it when other people do. I'm sure they don't mean to but they usually include spoilers. This is the latest book in a great series. I can't wait for the next one!
The Port of Missing Souls
The book I've been waiting for. Roy and Steven are doing their thing in Eximere, they're joined by Abe, Terrell, Eliza and Winn. They also finally meet Derick, our Dark River expert.
Together they fight against Unser and take over Eximere.
I was concerned when I found out this book was bringing all three of the River Series' together that it was going to be the end. I'm so glad that doesn't seem to be the case. I've grown to love reading about these people.
I'm a River fan! Just wish I could join them in the flow.
THE PORT OF MISSING SOULS, by Michael Richan is the 12th book in the River Series, and the one that long-standing fans of the River Universe have been waiting for! As the different River branches have had occasional crossovers, the story lines of the original River branch (Steven/Roy/Eliza), and that of The Dark River branch (Derick/A) have been getting closer and closer to an inevitable collision. In THE PORT OF MISSING SOULS, their stories finally merge together, exposing the long hinted at connection between Eximere, Unser, and the Dark River's self-proclaimed ruler, "LeFever".
Steven and Derick are given some incredible new depth to their individual characters, and previously half-explained "gifts" that each possess are fully explored. Characters such as Eliza and Roy remain true to their established personalities, and others from the River Universe are given some pivotal roles as well.
Here, Richan delves more fully into the Dark River, detailing how it once was, and how and when it began to change for the worse. The Empire that LeFever constructed for himself there, rivals some of the worst things brought out from greedy, controlling minds. Despite the depravity of things as they currently stand, we are given a glimpse at a--still dangerous--but less demented "other side" to the River.
This novel was paced with precision--allowing things to unfold and merge at a rapid, yet still understandable, speed. For longtime readers of this series, several back stories are hinted at, and many new challenges introduced. By the end of this book, I was emotionally drained from all of the happenings and the situation.
A fantastic collision of all three Branches, and an incredible treat for lifelong River followers.
Highly recommended!
